It's a new website that will provide a directory, or index, of food and drink products on sale in grocery retailers in the UK. But it will do much more than simply list products. It will also hold detailed information about product attributes, such as ingredients, nutritional composition, health benefits, origins and packaging.

Who will use it?

whatsmybrand.com will be used by the growing number of consumers interested in the content and provenance of the food and drink they buy.

It will be particularly useful for people who have special dietary requirements, such as an allergy or a need to avoid salt.

And it will also be useful for those who want to find products that have been made in a certain way, for example organic, locally produced or Kosher products.

How does it work?

It couldn't be easier.

Let's say you are on a low fat diet and are also gluten intolerant and prefer to buy Fairtrade products.

All you do is type these attributes into the search bar and let our intelligent search engine do the rest. You'll then be presented with all the products available that meet your needs. We also tell you where you can buy them and at what price!

So if you are looking for a low fat product, you can be sure that the products we present are what you are looking for because we use the Food Standards Agency's parameters to define what constitutes low, medium and high.

What happens if I am Vegan, Vegetarian or have another lifestyle choice like Kosher? - I don't want to see other foods!

It couldn't be easier. When you search, type in your lifestyle choice - for example Vegan, Kosher and then the food type and nutritional requirements that you are searching for. Or even easier - become a member and then you simply apply permanent filters to the site, so that every time you visit us these are the only lifestyle food choices you will see!

How much will you charge me to use whatsmybrand.com?

Nothing! You can use whatsmybrand.com as much as much as you like at no cost. You don't even need to register as a My Best Brands member. But if you do, you can enter our competition to win a car.

As a member you also get the benefits of personalising your search settings, saving and updating your searches into personalised product lists, which you can then use to price compare with your favourite retailers and then link to shop online with partaking retailers. If you like, you can even get regular product updates to suit your personal health, ethical and lifestyle requirements.

Is there advertising on the site, and can brands pay for enhanced listings as with other directories?

No. We do not accept advertising to ensure the site remains 100% independent and so that most importantly, you can trust whatsmybrand.com completely to provide you with the most definitive information about food and drink products.

Will people be able to use the site to shop?

First and foremost we provide you with the pertinent information that you seek on food and drink. Our focus is upon developing a comprehensive information hub for consumers hungry for information about their groceries.

However, if you take up our free membership offer, you will automatically have the convenience of being able to price compare and then link to your preferred partaking retailer to shop online.

Search for the food you like either by using our 'Free Term Search Bar' or 'The Query Builder', or alternatively 'The Filters' or 'The Food and Drink Categories'.

When you find a product you like either click on the picture or on the 'More Info' button and this will take you to all the listed information on this product.

If you would then like to add this to your list simply click on 'Add to my list' and then you can continue to search some more.

When you have compiled your list you can then save this and follow the directions to price compare or click to shop online with partaking retailers.
